Balangan Beach Bali: Surf, Sunset & Where to Eat

Balangan Beach, Bali: One of the Island’s Most Iconic Beaches

Some beaches are worth visiting for the waves. Others for the views. Balangan Beach has both.
Tucked beneath dramatic limestone cliffs on Bali’s Bukit Peninsula, Balangan is one of the island’s most iconic beaches. Think golden sand, turquoise water, palm trees and a laid-back atmosphere that makes it easy to lose track of time.

Things to Do at Balangan Beach

Catch the waves. Balangan is a favourite among surfers, known for its long left-hand reef break. Whether you're paddling out or simply watching from the shore, surfing is part of the beach's character. The reef and changing conditions make it particularly appealing to more experienced surfers.
Slow things down. Find a sunbed, order a fresh coconut from one of the local beach warungs and settle in for a few hours of doing absolutely nothing. That's part of the appeal.
Stay for sunset. Head up to the famous Balangan viewpoint for sweeping views of the coastline. As the afternoon light turns golden, it's easy to see why this is one of Bali's most photographed beaches.

Where to Eat After Balangan Beach

The beach day might be over, but the evening is just getting started.
A short drive from Balangan Beach, Wet Plate Kitchen brings a different kind of energy to the Bukit after dark.
This Asian-inspired restaurant combines an open kitchen, charcoal-grilled dishes, bold flavours and a bar serving signature cocktails. Settle into the courtyard or take a seat at the kitchen counter, where you can watch the chefs at work.
Start with Beef Tataki or Seabass Crudo, explore the menu and take your time over a cocktail.
From beach days to dinner nights, there's more to Balangan than the ocean.
